LIFE’S THORNS
Today is another one of those days where I wish I could learn to say no!! I always try and plan my week ahead so I know exactly what the schedule is! I had it all worked out…..this week would not have been too hectic, one meeting for the whole week and I could catch up on all the other things that I never have enough time for! Until you’re approached by someone asking you to cover for them or that phonecall asking you to please take care of a situation due to unforseen circumstances!
I want to be able to sleep later in the mornings, where no-one can see or bother me, where no-one can ask favours and give me work to do! I want to be able to go and sit on the veranda, watch the sun rise and if I still feel tired….go back to bed for another power nap!! I want to be able to go on holiday, not worry about what needs to be done in the office!! Sometimes I wish I could be a grasshopper….where I can jump over life’s hurdles or born with a “golden spoon in my mouth”…..even better still, I wish I were a glow worm, a glow worm’s never glum! How can you be grumpy when the sun shines out of your bum?
Alas, I am thankful for my life…..through the eyes and words of George Matheson I say:- God, I have never thanked Thee for my thorn! I have thanked Thee a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my thorn. Teach me the glory of the cross I bear, teach me the value of my thorns. Show me that I have climbed to Thee by the path of pain. Show me that my tears have made my rainbow.
After all, thorns make roses more precious!
