EMERGING (One Shot Wednesday)
Like a pebble
falls in a pond
ripples grow wider
words that cut
making me deaf
chains in my mind
lost within
darkness
your ice
cold heart
spreading
rings ever
wider
cocoon
opens
and
butterfly
spreads
its wings

Chains in my mind. Now that’s an evocative image if ever I read one. And yet the butterfly is not bound by them when all’s said and done. Very encouraging, Amanda. 🙂

August 17, 2010 at 12:32 am
lovely poem – sometimes it’s the chains that free us (or rather, that drive us to free ourselves – once we’ve noticed them, of course), I like the analogy… hugs!
August 17, 2010 at 7:33 am
Thanks so much, that is exactly my sentiment too!! Hope you have a great week my friend xxx
August 17, 2010 at 5:10 am
Oh yes! As long as the caterpillar becomes a butterfly, and flies free, everything’s good… All’s well that ends well 🙂
Barriers, hurdles and obstructions will always be there. Tackling them and emerging free is what shows our character!
Very well said, Amanda! A strong message in gentle and subtle words… lovely!!
Have a great week ahead, my lovely friend… LOTSA HUGS!! 😀
August 17, 2010 at 7:35 am
The caterpillar had a long winter sleep, now it’s time to come to life!!!! Like with everything in life, it takes time!! Yeahhhhhh…lotsa luv right back at you girlfriend. {{{HUgs}}}

Good heavens, I couldn’t understand where this was going so I kept going back to read again, and suddenly, I saw it. This is like two separate poems with the 2nd poem stuck smack in the middle, splitting the original apart. (The 2nd, being from “words that cut” up to “cold heart.”) It made me think of how we close in upon ourselves when sharp words are thrown by those we love – the words not unlike excalibur, King Arthur’s sword that even pierces stone. We harbor those words and hide them deep inside, festering. And then one day we are ready to let them go; powerful enough to open up, we release the cutting sword – we become the split cocoon and the butterfly, that stemming from the original pebble which rippled outward is tempered, and perfect. Fascinating, beautiful poem! I’m not sure if that’s what you were trying to portray, but that’s where this took me. I enjoyed the journey.
August 17, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Cindy, I am amazed at your enterpretation of what I actually said in this poem…it is 2 poems in one….while I was busy writing…it took another dimention with the cocoon and butterfly…oh my…you have actually taken my breath away because you saw it exactly as I have written it!!…every single word!! It actually gave me goose bumps!!! Thanks my friend, I love the fact that you go deeper…you understood it so well and I appreciate that so very much! WOW…I am speechless ….Hugs dear one xxx
August 17, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Amanda, the imagery you use with the stone ripples and the emergence from a cocoon make think about the butterfly effect of considering chaos. cheers on a great One Shot! (glad you’re a part of it. hugs)

Beautiful amanda. An emerald is shaped in adversity. A diamond under incredible pressure. And despite his “ice cold heart” you have given birth to a beautiful butterfly with wings marked in tribute to the transformation of what was to what is.
