CHOICES (One Shot Wednesday)

There are words

that touch my soul

words from your mouth

that cuts like a knife

words of wisdom

words of scorn

words of a fool

words of reproach

words of poise

words of solace

words of value

words of a song

words of grace

to make or break

 it’s your choice…

Words… Powerful for good or not good. You say it very beautifully. Love the artwork, too. Thank you for sharing, Amanda… xxoo

  2. Words are very powerful things. World defining things. Thanks for the reminder. – Bill

  3. This actually is in resonance with my blog name.. “how I write, is mine…how you read, is yours”
We often hear words..many words… but why and how they’ve been said was THEIR choice… and how we wish to accept the words is OUR choice…

This is a strong and bold poem, Amanda… But I LOVE IT… cuz like you, I too believe it!
Your words always have and still so make an impact on my… they linger in my mind and heart long after I’ve read your works… well, that’s the effect you have on me, sweetie..
Stay thus.. you are an amazing person to know!!! I am SOOO proud and grateful to have you as my friend…
Have a lovely Thursday, lovely lady.. mwaaahhh!!!

    • I so agree with your statement Kavita, life is all about choices…and I am so happy you liked it. I have decided a very long time ago that you don’t get anywhere in life with negativity…certainly not with bad choices or bad words. As we grow in life, so does our spirit …and I am in such a happy place in my life right now….nothing will ever be perfect…what will be will be!!! It has not always been easy but everything happens for a reason and I look forward to what tomorrow or the next day or the rest of my life will bring. I feel that same spirit in your being…and I appreciate it so. You are a fine Lady….thanks for being my friend and have a happy night…Friday here Whooohoooo!!! Love you and will be over shortly, I see you have posted a new poem. Mwah xxxxx

  4. Beautifully stated. At first I was thrown by the verb choice “that cuts” making the mouth the thing that cuts, rather than the words being the things ‘that cut.’ If you left it as words cutting, the poem would be using a much-used cliche’ but making the mouth cut, added a whole new dimension of thought.
For example, my daughter says that my mouth has an expression that drives her crazy. When she sees it, even though I’m not saying a word, she interprets it as criticism. I remember teachers, parents, other people in authority who made me feel alot smaller, just by the way they held their mouth.
It is well known that our body language portrays a much greater percentage of any message than our words do, so when the “mouth cuts” that’s exciting. I like this poem. Well Done, Amanda!

    • I so agree with you Cindy, it’s all about body language too!! Your understanding of what I write about or trying to say, blows me away every single time!!!(you and Kavita are amazing!!) Clever girl!! Thanks dear friend and lots of love!! xx

  5. true words of everything,
    yeah,
    it is one’s choice!

  6. Your poem reminds of the true power of words. Lovely poem.

  7. So many words to make or break… it always seems to come down to a choice, for everyone. Nice One Shot! Also, I think that Sinead song is one of the best I’ve ever heard (think Prince wrote that lyrical gem :))
    hugs, Amanda

  8. so true… our words are on our choices… but how powerful they are… its the real beauty… they can make one’s day or make you regret life time…
    you write so intelligenty Amanda…

  11. When I was a child we were taught that “sticks and stones can hurt your bones, but words can never hurt you.” But words really can hurt, and what hurts even more is the thought that someone is deliberately using them in such a way as to hurt.

Well done, the artwork is amazing too

    • I think we should all learn much earlier in life that words truly can hurt so very much!! You can never ever rub them out….and can change people’s lives. Thanks my friend, your inspiring comments are very close to my heart. I smile when I see you here and thank you for that! Have a gorgeous day xxxx

  12. What power words have, your poem speaks directly from my heart.
Love to you my dear friend.

    • I always say that you can ever take back when you hurt with words…sometimes they hurt so much more than anything else in life!!…you change people’s lives with words. I knew you’d like this my friend. I am sending you extra love across the universe today!! :)…love you xx

  13. Very powerful. Words can be used for or against us. It’s how we react to them that counts.

    My poem is here.

  14. lifeinarecipe Says:

I love how your words are placed as if forming a shape of a dagger. The choice is ours as to whether or not we use them as a weapon.
Very well done for a one shot! 😉
Have a wonderful day friend! xx

    • You are so perseptive Cindy, I love how you always look deeper and actually read what I see too. That makes your visit to me so much more special. Your comments almost always reads like another poem…I love it. Sending you love my friend xx

  15. ooo that one could cut like a knife – either clean or jagged.

I would choose to shower you with rose petals my dear friend
    for you are as fragrant

    A One Shot beauty

    Love from the Moon

  16. Dichotomy is an all too common theme in Love, the result of which is almost always ambiguity or indifference; both can be fatal. You have written your heart well in this one, Amanda. You never disappoint your fans.

btw…I was in love with Sinade back in the day 🙂

    Your fan,

    • Well, a lesson I have learned the hard way and still stuggle with..(*evel grin*) It normally happens due to my Afrikaans background but don’t think that bad words form part of this. It is a common theme in love, makes it even harder when you can’t look the person in the eye!!..I still love Sinead…wonder what happened to her. Right back at you for being my fan Cowboy. Hugs xx

  17. Powerful words for everything Amanda girlfriend..always love reading you and great oneshot dear xx

  18. “to make or break, it’s your choice…”
So very right, we often tend to blame it on Fate and GOD (how lame..)
Simple words conveyed the very essence of our overall attitude..
I guess I would keep swinging on your poems..

    All the very Best

  19. ah!!! nice one 🙂

to the point!!! life or death situation 😛

  20. Much feeling here!
    I really enjoy your poetry,Amanda 🙂
    Peace,Love and Joy,to you
    Laz

  21. So true… it’s our interpretation that is important; if we let them hurt or if we don’t, and words can hurt more than deeds, it’s up to us. I loved your poem and I have always loved Sinead O’Connor!

  22. The power of words is amazing…we must be careful because we can make or break someone with what we say…thanks for the reminder.

  23. Since it’s my choice, here are some words of encouragement: Nice write! 🙂

  24. I love this one- words, words, words… they either make it or break it 🙂 Lovely poem Amanda!

  28. The multitude of things that the power of word does.

Word is like a fine filament of a spider web that when the gift of writing weave together could be a powerful force to entrap the heart. People have different ways of weaving together words and how these written or spoken gossamers spun by the mind would capture, hit, make, build the soul or break it.

Word is a power we are intrusted by our creator. The intesity of the power depends on how we use it. Word was there in the beginning and would reign until the end of time.

    I wish you well.

    ~ Jeques

  29. This is wonderful Amanda – I love how you have ended this “to make or break it’s your choice…” – oh that we would all stop to think before we speak! And in an instance you can, like you said, make or break someone!

Wow, powerful stuff my friend 😀 Excellent as always!!!

    Chloe xx

    • Thanks Chloe…that is a lesson that I think we all should learn much younger in life…your comment said it all so well!! Words are so powerful and can change the person you are!! Loads of luviezzzzzzzzzzzz just for you xxx

  30. Happy (very belated) birthday! It’s like celebrating twice in one year 🙂 Great poem- really drives home the power of words.

  31. An adroit use of repetition for effect. Choices becomes a theme for a lifetime. Choices and their subsequent limitations. Good effort. Gay

  32. hi buttercup..am late on the rounds and still reading through them..promise me you will get near the top next week so i can see you earlier…although i have jsy spent the last few minutes being mesmerised by the tigers eyes, and then i saw the recipe..oh and then i got to read this amazing poem…choices..i still remember being 14 and making a choice that was wrong and i still play that over today in my head..choices are for life..a great one shot..cheers pete

    • Pete, your comment made me smile so much…I was very late this week …had such a hectic week and still on the rounds myself!! I think we all suffer from choices we made when we were young and innocent…it’s what we do with it that matters . Love love love having you here….thanks so much my friend. Have a happy day!! x

  33. So we must always choose our words with care. Yes, I could not agree more. Elegantly expressed sentiment, Amanda. 🙂

  34. ….It feels like you took my thoughts and made it yours…..stunning post!!!!
